The latest pirate attacks on private sailors and yachts in the Indian Ocean are not a new phenomenon but a result of a large number of yachts in the area, according to the spokesman for the EU’s fleet off Somalia.
“I don’t think this is a new tendency. I believe it is because there are currently three yacht races in the area and therefore a lot of yachts – and that is something the pirates have realised,” Capt. Paddy O’Kennedy tells politiken.dk.
