Integration Minister Birthe Rønn Hornbech says she did what was right in connection with the rejection of nationality applications by stateless people, despite a report in today’s Information citing ministry civil servants who say they warned against the practice in 2008.
The report cites two anonymous ministry officials as saying that the minister chose to ignore a recommendation from them in August 2008 and instead allowed application rejections to continue. Under the UN convention designed to combat statelessness, stateless people born in a country have the right to citizenship in that country until their 21st birthday.
