New figures from Statistics Denmark show that Finance Minister Claus Hjort Frederiksen miscalculated a forecast of Denmark’s 2010 deficit by some DKK 43 billion in what the head of the Economic Council says is a ‘significant miscalculation’.

The miscalculation resulted in censure from the European Union, which was then used by the government to defend billions in welfare savings through its recovery package.
