The Social Democratic Leader Helle Thorning-Schmidt would be swept into the prime minister’s office if an election were held today, according to the latest Megafon poll for Politiken and TV2.

The poll gives the opposition alliance 55.8 per cent of the vote or 97 mandates compared to 44.2 per cent or 78 seats for the government alliance. The Danish Parliament has 179 seats, with 90 seats needed for a majority.
