Belgian Chechen Lors Dukaev, who has been found guilty of attempted terrorism in preparing to send a letter bomb to the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison and to be subsequently permanently expelled from Denmark.

Dukaev, who admitted possession of explosives and a weapon but denied attempted terrorism, has petitioned for 14 days to decide whether to appeal the sentence. Under Danish practice, if he accepts the sentence, Dukaev can be released from Danish prison after six years and expelled to Belgium.
