Somali cartoonist attacker found guilty

The Western High Court in Århus has upheld the verdict of the lower court in finding Muhudin Mohamed Geele guilty of attempted terrorism and the attempted murder of the Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard.

Geele,29, was sentenced in the lower court to nine years in prison to be followed by permanent expulsion from Denmark. Both Geele and the prosecution appealed the sentence, with Geele calling for a reduction in sentence, acquittal on charges of attempted terrorism and a rescinding of the expulsion order. The prosecution called for a further three years to be added to the sentence in line with other sentences for terrorism.
