DPP suggests state guarantee for banks

In the wake of the crisis of the past few days in the Danish bank sector, politicians have made it clear that more taxpayers’ money will not be made available to the sector. Nonetheless, the Danish People’s Party has broken ranks to suggest the State could offer a guarantee for bank capital borrowed abroad.

Foreign debt often stands in the way of bank mergers, as international lenders fear the consequences of a merger, and demand immediate repayment.
