If a centre-left government wins the upcoming general election in Denmark, it may quickly face a diplomatic battle with Israel over the prospect of recognising a Palestinian state.
The Socialist People’s Party Leader Villy Søvndal, who is generally mooted as foreign minister in an SDP-SPP cabinet, is ready to canvas support from other EU countries to recognise Palestine as an independent state within the United Nations if all 27 EU countries cannot reach consensus.
