A report from the Actionaid organisation, which is represented in Denmark by Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke, accuses the Danish-Swedish dairy giant Arla of using EU subsidies to keep prices artificially low and thus putting local Bangladeshi farmers under pressure.
“Subsidised EU milk is causing unfair competition to poor farmers in Bangladesh, suppressing investment in the dairy industry and undermining EU investments in food security,” Actionaid says in connection with the release of its ‘Milking the poor’ report.
