A Danish rear-admiral is calling for anti-piracy operations in the Indian Ocean to be combatted using a much wider effort than simply chasing pirates.

“Just as with the gang warfare (in Denmark), there is a tendency to believe that if you put the criminals in prison the problem disappears. That is not the case. There are many different initiatives that have to come into play, and the pirates have to be helped to get back into fisheries,” says Former CO of Admiral Fleet Denmark and current CO of the Danish Defence Academy Nils Wang.
