The Danish National Cultural Treasures Committee has asked the Junior Counsel to the Treasury to investigate the next steps in the case of a Danish painting that has turned up in the United States and is seen as having been initially illegally exported.
“It is now up to the Junior Counsel to the Treasury to evaluate the case in all of its aspects,” says National Cultural Treasures Committee Chairman Erland Kolding Nielsen adding: “This is clearly an illegal export – so you could call it a case of smuggling”.
