Defence Minister Nick Hækkerup (SocDem) is to set up a committee to determine whether Defence Command Denmark should be axed and the Commander-in-Chief moved to the Defence Ministry under the Permanent Under-secretary.
“The goal is that the leadership of the military should correspond to a modern and efficient effort that its soldiers provide around the world. The structure of the military with a ministry and a Defence Command was created during the Cold War when Danish defence was a question of mobilising a lot of people if the Russians invaded Denmark,” Defence Minister Hækkerup says.
