The customs and tax authority SKAT has exposed a network of companies that has smuggled cigarettes and tobacco to Denmark from the Middle East, avoiding some DKK 4.2 million in duties.
The discovery came as a result of attempts to declare 10,000 cigarettes – but the amount to be declared did not seem to tally with a load of three full pallets. A customs inspection showed there were two million cigarettes in the consignment.
