Denmark has taken over the rotating presidency of the European Union for the next six months, and is looking to change the way in which urgent reforms can be fast-tracked through the parliamentary system.
Instead of the painstaking democratic process through the European Parliament, during which all MEPs are able to pitch in with their views and amendments, Europe Minister Nicolai Wammen envisages meetings behind closed doors with European Parliament spokesmen and other key people to enter into informal agreements.
