The Iranian authorities have called in Denmark's ambassador to Teheran Anders Christian Hougård to give an explanation of why the European Union has decided to impose an oil embargo on the country. The Danish ambassador was called as Denmark currently holds the rotating EU presidency.
EU foreign ministers agreed an embargo on Iranian oil to European Union countries on Monday as part of a complex of sanctions designed to put pressure on Teheran to return to the negotiating table to discuss its nuclear programme.
