Defence refused calls to close Armadillo

Danish soldiers continued to man a forward operating base in Helmand Province in Afghanistan for some 18 months, despite calls from British command that the base should be closed as its importance in the war against the Taleban was limited.

Denmark had 150 troops stationed at Forward Operating Base Armadillo near Gereshk. Its importance in the war against the Taleban was determined to be minimal and in the summer of 2009 British command unsuccessfully called for Denmark to close the base.
