Companies are not permitted to contact their customers by telephone or e-mails to sell further products unless they have been specifically given permission to do so, according to a ruling from the Consumer Ombudsman.
The ruling comes in connection with the ombudsman’s investigation into unsolicited calls from TDC, which the company termed ‘Tele check’ calls but which were predominantly used to try to sell more products to customers. If customers said they had problems with existing products, they were simply told to contact the company.
