A bitter battle has broken out between two illustrious Danish academics on the sensitive issue of whether Jyske Lov (Jutland Law), penned in 1241 by Valdemar the Conqueror, covered all of Denmark as it then was, or just bits of the land.

The dispute has arisen following a treatise by Director of the National Library Erland Kolding Nielsen, who claims that his research now shows that the 1241 legal complex applied to the entire nation.
