Revoking citizenship from someone who has lived as a Dane for nearly 20 years is unjust, argues a lawyer.

It cannot be concluded with sufficient certainty that there was a misinterpretation when Nadine, a woman from Funen, was granted Danish citizenship at the age of nine after being adopted by a Danish man. Therefore, the authorities cannot revoke her citizenship.

Even if there was a misinterpretation, the Agency of Family Law cannot simply revoke Nadine’s Danish citizenship, as it contradicts the principle that she had a legitimate expectation that it was correct when she was granted Danish citizenship nearly 20 years ago.
