Convicted gang members and violent criminals face a bleak future, particularly if they enjoy spicing up their lives with visits to top-tier football matches in Denmark.

In a few days, when Minister for Justice Peter Hummelgaard (Socialdemokratiet, S) presents the government’s second legislative package in three years aimed at bolstering efforts against hooliganism in Danish football, tougher sanctions against gang members and those convicted of violence will be new tools. This is an attempt to prevent the violence and crime that have taken root in the most hardened corners of the local fan scene.
