New affordable public housing is set to be built in Copenhagen, and the Social Democrats’ mayoral candidate, Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil (Socialdemokratiet, S), wants to lead the way. She proposes that the government should raise the maximum amount, which dictates how expensive housing organizations are allowed to build. The maximum amount has currently halted several new public housing projects.

In her book ’København, København’ Rosenkrantz-Theil writes that she wants the maximum amount for public housing construction raised »so that these affordable homes can constitute a larger part of the overall housing mix«. And last week, Rosenkrantz-Theil called it a »call to action« for the government when she, along with Social Democratic mayor of Aarhus, Anders Winnerskjold, again proposed the same.
