It was quite a gut punch for Annabell Bendiks Hansen, 23, when she applied last year to the architecture programs in Copenhagen and Aarhus. She took the admissions test, which has two parts, but both schools rejected her after the initial take-home assignment.

»It really knocked the wind out of me. I honestly thought what I turned in was good. But I also heard that the people who get in are the ones who’ve taken a course«, she says.
