When Danes are asked about how they view their own finances and Denmark’s economy in the years ahead, they paint a bleak picture. It looks quite different when the debit card does the talking.
New figures from Statistics Denmark show that total retail sales, adjusted for price changes, were 4.2 per cent higher in the first seven months of this year than in the same period in 2025, while consumer confidence stood at -13.1 in August and has been in negative territory since 2022.
