Thousands of young people are beginning new degree programs in Copenhagen in these weeks. For 24-year-old Julie Thomsen, a veterinary student from Central Jutland, the excitement of starting school was quickly overshadowed by an acute housinghunt.

Da Julie Thomsen blev optaget på dyrlægestudiet i København sidste sommer, var hun lykkelig for udsigten til både drømmestudiet, nye venner og et spændende liv i storbyen. Ret hurtigt blev den boblende fornemmelse i maven dog overskygget af et kæmpe pres for at finde et tag over hovedet, der var til at betale, i den københavnske boligjungle.

»Der er jo mange, der prøver at snyde folk for penge. En mand ville have mig til at overføre 1.000 kr. for en visning, inden jeg overhovedet var kommet til byen«, husker hun.
