Award-winning architect's guide to Copenhagen

For god’s sake…
»...Go to Louisiana. It may be outside Copenhagen, but there are some really great exhibitions at the moment – ‘The World is Yours’ and “The Architecture of the Future is Green’. International modern art and sustainability. And Louisiana is without doubt the best that Denmark has to offer in the way of architecture, nature, landscape and art. It just doesn’t get better than this. Across the board from the old villa to all the buildings that have been added in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, Louisiana is an historic review of Danish architecture over the past 50 years«.

In Christian’s footsteps
»You can also get hold of a bicycle – rent one or get a citybike – and take a trip up the Round Tower (Rundetårn) Just like King Christian IV. He was so lazy that he couldn’t be bothered to go up stairs, so he had the Round Tower built so he could be carried up in a carriage and see the stars from the penthouse. You can also go outside and see a full panorama of Copenhagen«.

Rundetårn, Købmagergade 52A, Kbh. K. Every day 10-17.

My hood
»My neighbourhood is Vesterbro. And if you want something to eat, you should go to Fiskebaren in Kødbyen (the Meat Market). The food and atmosphere is great – and you can see Scandinavia’s only jellyfish aquarium in a massive acrylic cylinder. There’s all sorts of fish, good oysters and fish menus. And if you’re in Kødbyen anyway, go to the V1 Gallery and then on to the Jolene bar. That’ll give you a real Copenhagen – or rather Vesterbro – experience«.

Fiskebaren (eksternal link) , Flæsketorvet 100, Kbh. V. Tue-Thu 18-24, Fri-Sat 18-03 and Sun 18-23.

Fillet and prawns
»Or go to Frk. Barners Kælder. An authentic Danish restaurant where I often eat lunch. The restaurant is on the ground floor where I also live. Frk. Barners Kælder is old school par excellence and they serve a fantastic fish fillet and prawns – in Danish known as a shooting star. Take the lunch. Traditional Danish cuisine is better at lunchtime than in the evening«.

Frk. Barners Kælder (eksternal link) , Helgolandsgade 8 A, Kbh. V. Mon-Sat 11.30-23, Sun 11.30-17.

Self-promotion

»And when you’re sitting out there in the middle of nowhere at COP15 and need some fresh air or a smoke, you can pop over to Bjerget, which is right next to the Bella Center. By walking along the massive mountain picture on the facade, you can walk all the way up to the top of Mount Everest«.
