Not even a week passed from the moment the votes were counted before chaos broke out in Folketinget’s youngest and newest party, Borgernes Parti.
Three days after the election, the party leadership expelled a brand-new member, Jacob Harris, after the media outlet Finans reported that, according to a bankruptcy trustee, he had acted grossly irresponsibly in a bankruptcy case and was on the police’s radar. Shortly afterward, it was another newly elected lawmaker, this time Nadja Natalie Isaksen, who drew attention and anger at Christiansborg after B.T. wrote about a post she had made last year on the social media platform X.
In it, she wrote, among other things, that Radikale Venstre’s Samira Nawa is not Danish.
That was the backdrop Monday when 23 journalists and photographers gathered behind a red ribbon outside Lars Boje Mathiesen’s office at Christiansborg. Boje had gone away for the weekend and therefore had not responded to reporters. Instead, he had summoned the press for noon if they had any questions.
A few hours earlier, Christiansborg’s second-newest independent, Jacob Harris – who before the weekend had been a Borgernes Parti member of Parliament – was walking around the main hall trying to get his bearings. First day on the job.
»I have no comment«, Harris said as Politiken tried to ask him a question.
It’s a rotten situation, as one would say in Jutland
Someone who did have something to say, however, was the chairman of Borgernes Parti, Lars Boje. In a six-minute rundown, he displayed documents that Jacob Harris had signed before his candidacy— including a sworn statement declaring that Harris was not involved in financial crime and had not done anything that could prompt critical media coverage of the party.
Boje’s message was clear: Jacob Harris had lied to him and to Borgernes Parti. That was why he had felt compelled to expel him.
»It’s a rotten situation, as one would say in Jutland«, Boje said, arguing that the party had done thorough groundwork in screening its parliamentary candidates.
Boje’s willingness to talk evaporated, however, when he was confronted with what Nadja Natalie Isaksen had written on social media. On Aug. 7, 2025, she wrote on X that Radikale Venstre’s (R) Samira Nawa might have Danish citizenship, but »that doesn’t make her Danish«.
»A cat doesn’t become a horse just because it was born in a horse stable«, her X profile said.
Later, Isaksen agreed in a comment with the X profile NorthForNords that »a Dane is genetic« and »not something you can become or buy your way into. You’re born Danish«.
Rundown
Parliament’s new independents
Less than a week after the election, two newly elected members of Parliament have become independents.
First, it was Borgernes Parti’s Jacob Harris, who was forced to leave the party’s parliamentary group after several media outlets reported on a ban on serving as a company director following bankruptcy and suspicions of fraud. The group is now down to three members.
On Sunday, it was Liberal Alliance that had to bid farewell to a newly elected member almost before they had a chance to say hello. Cecilie Liv Hansen, elected in the South Jutland constituency, has, according to the party, lied to it by failing to inform LA that her partner had been selling drugs.
The newly elected member of Parliament has rejected that her posts were racist to B.T.:
»There is nothing racist about dividing people based on nationalities. Parliament already does that in a wide range of areas«, she wrote, among other things.
And Nadja Natalie Isaksen did not appear to regret her statements either. On X on Sunday, she wrote:
»Well, I sure kicked the door to the Folketing wide open with a bang – obviously« followed by a thumbs-up.
Nadja Natalie Isaksen did not want to take part in this article. On Monday, Lars Boje appeared to share that wish:
You have Nadja Isaksen in the party, who believes that Samira Nawa (R) is not Danish. What do you think? Is Samira Nawa Danish?
»That’s political. For obvious reasons, I haven’t had time to look at all the politics right now«, Boje said.
What do you think? Ss Samira Nawa Danish?
»I’m not going to address that today«.
That bloc is completely finito now
But what about your opinion?
»If there are more questions about this case, we can absolutely make an appointment about something political, which I’d be happy to comment on anyway. But this was a statement about this case (the Jacob Harris case, ed.), so if there’s nothing more, then thank you for today«, Boje said, before disappearing behind the door to Borgernes Parti’s secretariat.
Blue bloc is »finito«
On the same platform where Nadja Natalie Isaksen’s remarks about Samira Nawa appeared, political commentator Noa Reddington called Isaksen’s post the worst scandal »of all the scandals in the blue bloc after the election«.
»That V, K, and LA consider BP a suitable parliamentary foundation is unworthy for the blue bloc«, he wrote on X.
In a comment on that post, Moderaterne’s parliamentary group leader Mohammad Rona wrote:
»That bloc is completely finito now«.
Politiken sought a comment from Mohammad Rona without success. Politiken also has not been able to get an answer within the blue bloc as to whether the cases affect the parties’ willingness to base a potential blue government on BP’s votes. Danmarksdemokraterne, DF, Konservative and Venstre have either declined to take part or have not responded to Politiken’s inquiries.
LA’s political spokesperson, Sólbjørg Jakobsen, did interrupt her Easter vacation, however, to share on Facebook her »contempt for what she (Samira Nawa, ed.) is being subjected to«.
»So, dear Nadja: It’s not too late to withdraw your statement, apologize, and change course«, she wrote.
Shortly after Boje’s press conference, another reason for Lars Boje to furrow his brow emerged. The party’s co-founder and parliamentary candidate Vivane Ellasofie Karlsen wrote on Facebook that she is leaving the party:
»I no longer recognize the spirit of the political project I helped start two years ago, and I am also astonished by the internal leadership style«.
