In December 2021, Mie Andersen received a meeting invitation from one of Instagram’s executives.

She had spoken publicly about how posts on the social media platform had led her to harm her own body — how other people’s graphic descriptions and images of cuts had influenced her to self-harm to such an extent that it nearly cost her her life.
