On October the 1st 1884, Dagbladet Politiken was founded in Copenhagen by Viggo Hørup, Edvard Brandes and Herman Bing. The circulation amounted to 2.000 copies a day, each at the price of 0.01 Euro.
In 1904 the tabloid Ekstra Bladet appeared for the first time as a special issue on the Japanese-Russian war.
