Det var en ekskæreste, der fik Johnny Hviid Thomsens øjne op for sosu-faget. Han skulle finde på noget at lave efter 25 år som tømrer, hvor han var ude for en arbejdsulykke.

Med uddannelsen til sosu-assistent kan han forsørge sig selv, fordi han får en ægte voksenløn under uddannelsen. Og han har opdaget, at han faktisk godt kan finde ud af at gå i skole igen. For nylig fik han 12 i farmakologi.

»Det var aldrig sket, dengang jeg var 18«.
