This weekend marked a historic moment in Danish politics when Alex Vanopslagh (Liberal Alliance, LA) revealed that he had used cocaine during his tenure as party leader. Never before has a party leader openly discussed drug use, and the announcement has sparked outrage and raised questions about the party’s own policies.

Vanopslagh, who became chairman in 2019, did not specify where or when he used cocaine, but he stated that it happened before his stress-related sick leave in January 2021, and that he did not purchase it himself or have any dealings with sellers.
