New party today

A new Danish party sees the light of day today.

A former Danish People’s Party MP Christian Hansen is to announce a new parliamentary party today.

Hansen resigned from the Danish People’s Party in January after returning from a lengthy sick leave. He complained that the party used too much time on integration issues and not enough on unemployment, health policy and the economic crisis.

Since his resignation, it has been unclear whether Hansen was to join an existing party or found his own group.

Some two weeks ago, Hansen began cooperating with Per Clausen of the Red-Green Alliance in order to further ecological issues in Denmark. The cooperation raised interest as the Danish People’s Party and the Red-Green Alliance seldom cooperate on issues.

Hansen was previously the Danish People’s Party spokesman on animal welfare and has been an MP for 12 years.
