Despite the Danish People's Party's threats to stay away from budget negotiations, the government and the DPP have reached agreement on immigration and family reunions.

The controversy between the government and its parliamentary safety net began on July 10, when Berlingske Tidende wrote that the Danish immigration authority had failed to inform Danes that they could legally avoid the 24-year old rule in family reunions with foreign spouses by working for between two and 10 weeks in another EU country.
