International reactions against Burma’s decision to add 18 months to Aung San Suu Kyi’s 14-year house arrest have been rapid in coming, not least from Denmark’s Foreign Minister Per Stig Møller.

“The Danish government condemns the Burmese military regime’s decision to sentence the leader of the country’s largest opposition party, Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, to prison in continued house arrest for a deed she did not commit,” says Stig Møller in a news release adding that the sentence is a purely arbitrary one and a serious step backwards for democracy and national reconciliation in Burma.
