Denmark will only be able to live up to its Kyoto commitments by buying CO2 credits and starting environmental projects in other countries, according to Professor Ellen Margretne Basse of the Aarhus University Climate Secretariat.
Under the Kyoto Protocol, Denmark has committed to reducing its CO2 emissions by 21 percent in 2012 compared with 1990 figures, but the latest official figures from 2007 show that the country has only managed to reduce emissions by 3.9 percent compared with 1990.
