Doubts have been raised as to the explanations given by the former chairman of the Danish Communist Party (DKP), who is now finance spokesman for the Socialist People’s Party, in connection with the demise of the DDR, according to B.T. and Jyllands-Posten.

B.T. writes that Ole Sohn MP – who was DKP chairman from 1987 to 1991 – expressed enthusiasm for the DDR regime in a letter to the DDR’s then leader Erich Honecker. The letter, which is found in Germany’s national archives in Berlin, says that East German socialism was ‘a great inspiration’.
