PM: No to Franco-German treaty change

The Danish prime minister has given the thumbs down to a proposal from President Sarkozy and Chancellor Merkel to reopen the EU Treaty to allow voting rights to be taken from countries that do not live up to the EU’s economic rules and regulations.

“This is certainly not something we have been involved in, and I reject the proposal that a country’s voting rights can be taken away,” Løkke Rasmussen says following a meeting of the Parliamentary Foreign Policy and Europe Committees at which he reported on the upcoming EU summit.
