It was a campaign promise that was easy to understand back in 2005 when the Social Democratic top profile Ritt Bjerregaard was the party’s new lead candidate for the municipal elections in Copenhagen:

To ensure that police officers, nurses, and school teachers could still afford to live in the city, the former Social Democratic minister and EU Commissioner promised to build 5,000 family homes for no more than DKK 5,000 a month within five years.
