An important piece of 18th century war correspondence from Vice-Admiral Peder Wessel Tordenskjold has turned up and is to be auctioned at a Bruun Rasmussen Auction on Dec. 2 in Copenhagen.
In the four-page letter from 1719, Tordenskjold, as he is known, strongly recommends that Gothenburg, and not Marstrand in Sweden should be captured first. His recommendation was not followed and he was told to conquer the Karlsten Fortress in Marstrand, which he did. Shortly afterwards he destroyed the rest of the Swedish fleet at Gothenburg, his last military feat.
