Calls to official offices and companies in Denmark will be largely in vain today, the fourth Friday after Easter, a public holiday known as Great Prayer Day and a holiday peculiar to Denmark.

Introduced in the 17th century, the day consolidated various holy days that had remained in the Danish calendar following the reformation. A major revamp of public holidays in the 18th century retained Great Prayer Day (Store Bededag) in the calendar.
