Opposition out of budget talks

The government is highly unlikely to achieve broad parliamentary support for its 2011 budget after the Social Democrats (S) and the Socialist People’s Party (SF) left the ongoing negotiations today.

After an hour of talks with Finance Minister Claus Hjort Frederiksen, Social Democratic Leader Helle Thorning Schmidt and Socialist People’s Party Leader Villy Søvndal left the discussions saying: “We have very different views as to what has to be done in economic policy here and now.”
