The number of amphibian species around the world is rapidly decreasing, with groups such as frogs, toads and salamanders falling prey to climate change, loss of habitats and a fatal fungal infection according to a Copenhagen University international study.
The study, which is being published in the international scientific publication Nature, says that amphibians are the most threatened species of all animals. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) says that 30 per cent of the world’s amphibians are already on the Red List of threatened species.
