There was a time when people just drank beer. Knocked back lagers. Chugged brews. Enjoyed a quiet one. Had a couple of cold ones. Unless, of course, you were solving the world’s problems in a chilly basement with a bunch of green bottles.
The choices were straightforward. Hof and Tuborg were available nationwide, with local beers depending on one’s location. But whether you drank one type of Bavarian beer or another, it didn’t really play a role in your identity. Beer was good, and beer was healthy, so people drank it around the clock—whether they were workers or prime ministers. A beer was always a good idea.
