Since time immemorial, lemon, sugar, and water have been mixed into lemonade, a thirst-quenching drink in the summer heat. Lemonade was already being drunk in medieval Egypt, and in Paris it was all the rage around 1650. From there it sailed on to England and later the United States, where it became especially popular during the years when alcohol was banned.
