That there is a persistent difference between men’s and women’s wages in Denmark has long been clear. Now researchers have found new insights into the causes behind it.

Until now, part of the explanation for women’s lower wages has been that they more often than men choose to work in lower-paid sectors and job types and that they more often opt out of leadership positions. But the value of flexible and regular working hours and jobs without on-call duties in a Danish context has not been examined — until now.
