Municipalities are pouring resources into youth, but it isn’t paying off. Almost eight percent of children and adolescents now have a child‑protection report on record.

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of notifications sent to municipalities by professionals, private citizens, or parents who are concerned about a child or young person.

Since 2019, the number of children that municipalities have received one or more notifications about has risen by 24 percent. This means that in 2024, notifications were made about 98,300 children, according to figures from Kommunernes Landsforening’s analysis magazine Momentum. This corresponds to nearly eight percent of all children and young people.
