Reports in recent weeks of freshman initiation parties spiraling out of control have reignited the debate over Danish teenagers’ drinking habits. Even though alcohol consumption among young people has been declining in recent years, Danish youth still hold the E.U. record for binge drinking.

Moreover, the decline has not been equally large across age groups. Among 15- to 17-year-olds, the age group that typically showing up at these initiation parties, consumption has barely budged.
