Scrolling through a typical teenage girl’s social media feed, there’s a good chance you’ll find pictures of cottage cheese. The small white curds are used as toppings on avocado toast and in bowls of skyr – better known as bowls on social media.

On Instagram, under the hashtag ’cottage cheese,’ there are over 660,000 posts about cottage cheese. According to Stinne Gunder Strøm Krogager, who researches food and media at Aalborg University, the rising popularity is linked to young people’s focus on health:
