The Danish military appears to have deliberately chosen a day rich in symbolism as the starting point for when new recruits at the country’s barracks can sign up for the new, significantly expanded conscription.
However, acting Chief of Defense Michael Hyldgaard insists he didn’t issue the order. He’s not concerned though, that the opening coincides with Denmark’s 80th anniversary of liberation.
